Services

Everything begins with a thorough, physical examination of the patient. That means hands, eyes and ears on the patient. Communication with the client is of utmost importance. Information from the client helps the veterinarian in the diagnostic process. information from the veterinarian helps the client better understand what is happening with the patient. From there, we have the resources to make an accurate diagnosis (laboratory, radiography, electrodiagnostics) and provide the appropriate treatment (pharmacy, endoscopy, anesthesia, in-patient care, and a wide range of highly skilled surgical procedures).

Examinations

The annual examination is much more than just a check- up. This exam provides the veterinarian an opportunity to discover the early warning signs of changes that may affect the patient's future health. Health problems may be corrected and disease processes slowed when detected early in the course. Without regular examinations, subtle symptoms may go undetected, resulting in severe illness. It is so much better to prevent a problem than to require emergency treatment. Please make certain that your pet sees a veterinarian at least once every year. That is like seeing your doctor once every 7 years!

X-rays are used to make radiographs. Radiographs are useful in the diagnoses of many diseases. At Atlantic Veterinary Services, we utilize DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY. This technology provides the ultimate in detail and allows the veterinarians to communicate the best information regarding their patients. Common uses of radiology include, diagnosis of bone fracture, bladder stones, breeding certification of hip and elbow conformation, visualization of foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal tract, cardiac and lung health, and the detection of tumors.

Operating Room

Modern veterinary surgery is done under sterile conditions designed to minimize the chances of bacterial contamination. Instruments, gowns, drapes and other accessories are sterilized in an autoclave. As well, the surgeon scrubs the hands and wears sterile, disposable surgical gloves. Masks and sterile operating gowns are also important. By adhering to sterile surgical techniques, postoperative infections are seldom encountered. Excellent quality anesthesia and patient monitoring go hand in hand with excellent surgical skill to ensure patients recover quickly and heal with minimal discomfort.
