STAFF CONTINUNING EDUCATION:
April 2010; Carrie and Dawn returned to the Eastern Veterinary Conference held in Baltimore, MD. As always, a vast array of topics in veterinary medicine was presented. They both learned improved techniques for monitoring patients under anesthesia, including blood pressure monitoring. Laboratory procedures usful to dermatology were also developed.

Dr. Watson attended the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association's winter meeting in early February 2010. Lectures were presented on behavior management and veterinary geriatrics. Behavior therapy is a growing, new, speciality in veterinary medicine. Many patients suffer from anxity and phobias. Separation anxiety and Thunderstorm phobia have become very common problems in our pets. Dr. Watson has studied several new therapeutic medications and training techniques that should benefit our patients suffering from disorders affecting behavior. Our cats and dogs are living longer lives, thanks to healthier life styles and improved health care. As our pets age, they can develop special needs to accommodate changing bodies. Cognitive Disfunction Syndrome is a behavioral related disorder that can occur in older dogs and cats. Dr. Watson learned new techniques for diagnosing and treating this increasingly common disorder.
October 2009, Dr. Schultz was accompanied by Carrie and Dawn, in attendance of a Flea Biology seminar presented by Novartis Animal Health.
In March 2009, Dr. Watson, along with head technician Carrie, attended lectures presented by Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center. Current information was presented by the specialits in Dermatology, Dentistry, Orthopedic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology and Internal Medicine.
Durring Mid April 2008 Dr. Watson & Carrie attended the CVRC educational lectures. Current information was presented on Feline Pancreatitis, Oral Trauma, Congestive Heart Disease, Pulmonary Thromboembolic disease, and treatments for corneal ocular diseases.
Dr. Watson & Carrie also attended the Eastern Veterinary Conference held in Baltimore, MD at the end of April 2008. Updated information was learned on a vast array of topics in veterinary medicine; from animal behavior problems to zoonotic diseases.
Dr. Watson attended the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association's winter meeting in early February 2008. He updated his knowledge with lectures on DIABETES; KIDNEY INSUFFICIENCY; and the NEW, VIRULENT, SYSTEMIC CALICIVIRUS INFECTION IN CATS. These are very important diseases in cats. New treatment methods and medication, as well as the new calicivirus vaccine were discussed. Also lectures on SURGICAL ONCOLOGY were attended. Cancer and tumors are an ever present problem in our family pets. Surgical removal remains a major foundation of treatment. There are many new and improved options for cancer treatment.
Hopefully, none of our family members will have to deal with any of these problems.
We strive to keep our knowledge base current to help our veterinary patients with what ever problem they may encounter.
